Lower your expectation

Lower your expectation.Such a simple sentence. But it is easier said than done.It is so difficult to lower ones expectation because it happens because of a certain experience.Let me talk about friends specifically.Unfortunately i have never had the habit of being diplomatic with people whom i really think are close to me.I just talk straight out of my head and i know it has hurt a lot of people. So this post is just a natural thing. But most of the times they also know that they deserved it.I still strongly believe that diplomatic talks are reserved for strangers and people whom i think that they are not close to me.

I feel that there are some people who are important to me.This feeling that they are important to me has foolishly made me think that i am equally important to them. The moment you feel that way,you share any thing important in your life for eg. you got a promotion, you bought a house, got engaged. Some would even say that you should even share small insignificant things. But the wisdom says at least you share important things good and the bad with people whom you consider important.

When you do so it is but  obvious that you expect them to reciprocate.Well this is where we reach that stage where we have expectation.Nothing wrong you might say.But the funny thing is that just because you think that they are important does not mean that they think of you in the same way.So when they ignore you no matter how much you fume, burn or even go up as smoke, truth is that they are just being normal.Because they never considered you important and so they did not share that with you.Well if somebody has been naive whose mistake is that.so what is the solution?

Now read the title of this post. But the problem is some people never learn from their mistakes. But if we did not have those fools who keep making those mistakes time and again we would have forgotten a virtue.

What is that virtue?Well it is called forgiveness ;).Will reserve that for another post.

P.S:Now that i have written so much about this stuff, you may ask me "Are you a saint?".Definitely no.I have done that mistake of ignoring couple of my close friends on one occasion. But i was at least remorseful enough to accept that and i apologised. well i think that is the only good thing about me.Almost  all the times when i have realised i made a mistake i at least have had the guts own up and ask to be forgiven. But for all the people who  felt that i am important to them and  i had ignored ,i have only one thing to say  " please forgive me"

Mind's Eye

Mind's Eye - I came across this term when my Uncle christened his software company some years  ago.He explained me as the ability to see through things clearly not just look.

But are we not guilty of just looking.I can at least accept that i am guilty of having done that.People who are visually challenged are naturally blessed with mind's eye. They can see through things. They make friends, fall in love with a person for whom they really are. Not because of their looks, status, education and wealth.

In fact they are not handicapped.I would rather say that we are mind challenged because we make wrong assumptions and decision because our eyes mislead us.We do not use our greater sense, that is our mind.Instead we just choose to use the simple sense of vision in making important decision.

So my appeal to all my friends out there "See with your Mind's eye".

Wow! A Trilogy on Lord Shiva

I love novels that blends History,Mythology and Fiction. That is the reason i read Dan Brown's 'Da Vinci Code', 'The Angels and demons' and 'The Lost Symbol'.In fact i like only Da Vinci Code even though i did not like the end of the novel. The other two novels of his were not that great.I was just thinking India has got such a great history ,mythology but not even novel in this genre. But i chanced upon a novel 'The Immortals of Meluha' as it was in the bestseller section of a book shop.I was drawn by its title and title cover.Read the gist which is generally given on the back ocver.Found it very interesting and picked up the book.

The Author is a guy called Amish who is IIM graduate turned banker turned into an author.Initially thought not another Chetan Bhagat clone. But as i read the acknowledgement i could understand that this guy is more humble than Chetan who calims to be a know all.More than that when i started reading i was sucked into the novel.Never before i think has anyone  made a bold and an innovative attempt. He seems to be well read on Hindu Mythology,History,Philosophy and Ancient India's history. He has woven all these with his own intelligent thinking into a beautiful and believable novel. In this novel the protaganist 'God Shiva'.But whats different in the approach is that he says that he was a great warrior who became a great leader and  then by sheer virtue of his great acts has becom etched in the minds of Indians as an all powerful God.The novel beautifully shows how a tibetan immigrant Shiva becomes a God.The great thing is that he has decided to write a trilogy to narrate the journey from a warrior to god .So far he has come out with the first two novels.

'The Secret of the Nagas' a sequel to 'The Immortals of Meluha' has impressed me a lot.I am just waiting for the last of the Shiva Trilogy 'The Oath of the Vayuputras'.What i really like about these novels  is that there seems to be no slackening of pace in the narration. In my view he has outclassed Dan Brown.I wish they make these novels into a movie someday. These novels are as good as they can get.Even people who are not followers of Shiva will be awestruck as he has made Shiva  a ubercool leader like a Godfather.Such is the characterisation of Shiva that everyone who reads the novel will long to become like him.If not everyone atleast i have to admit that i have that feeling.

So Guys no more flaunting Da vinci Code please read these novels.

Those who are humorous are also philosophical

Sometime back i wrote a status message in my Facebook account.'I think Those who are humorous are also philosophical but its only that others don't get to see their philosophical side'.I thought it was just my opinion. Was surprised to see a lot of people agreeing with my view point.I have written a slightly similar post longtime  back but still would like to write this.

Most of the time people like being around persons who have great sense of humour. They have a great time as they are kept happy with the quick wits. They think those guys (humorous ones) never take anything in life seriously. But on the contrary they are the ones who are most philosophical. In my opinion what makes them different is that they have a tendency to do a lot of introspection. They look at the society and are deeply impacted by things but they talk about it in a subtle manner laced with humour. Even if something is going wrong with their lives(personal or professional) they still talk about it  laced with humour.

Now that i have my theory, guys who are reading might want to ask me to substantiate this.I take the help of Mr.Charlie Chaplin to substantiate this interesting or dumb theory.I have not seen all of his movies. But from what i have seen like "Modern Talkies","the Kid" are not just slapstick movies. They are serious movies coated  with humour.Even his personal life was far from happy but still he managed to bring smiles to people. One of Charlie Chaplin's quotes thats proof enough to substantiate my title goes like this.
"I like walking in rain because nobody can see me crying".

I do not mean to say that all the guys with sense of humour are dealing with something bad in their lives.Definitely not my point.
All i would like to say is "Next time you see a guy cracking jokes you know that he is not just a funny guy"

Tony fernandes.Whos that?

I fail to understand why i am always interested in daring entrepreneurs(May be i am jealous of them knowing that i am just a wage earner). This post is about another entrepreneur and without a doubt "An Indian descent Entreprenuer".

Have you guys heard about Tony Fernandes?Don't blame if you guys dont know.I never knew this guy untill today. But i have always known Air Asia and their aggressive promotions though.Today i read an article about him in "The Strategist".

Reasons why i write about him
1.He is an Indian by birth.
2.He used to work for one of my favourire business leader "Richard Branson"
3.He acquired and turned around a loss making venture into one of the most successfull airlines.

Tony fernandes's Father happens to be a Goan, did his postgraduation in Business in LondonsSchool of Economics.Worked in Virgin Record for Richard Branson.

He acquired Air Asia which was under a debt or loss of 10 million dollars for just one malaysian Ringit (Rupess 15). With his daring and bold moves turned it into a profitable airlines in just 2 years. With the lowest operating per Flying Kilometer, best turned around time it is regarded as the best low cost airline.Remember Airlines was one of the severely hit industries during recession, low cost airlines is even more competitive. They have tasted success in Singapore,Thailand after Malaysia which is originally home for Air Asia.He has been conferred with Dato'Sri by Malaysian which is the highest honur for civilians. He has created a furore in India as well by launching services from Tiruchirapalli a tier 2 town in Tamilnadu in India, after doing a carefull market study.Maverick move which has paid him dividends.

He has explained Air Asia wants to become the best foreign Low cost airline in India.Seeing what he has done so far,i am sure he is going to accomplish that.

Will be exciting to see his duel with another one of my favourite business leader 'Vijay Mallya'.

Apart from this he also owns a new F1 Team "Lotus F1",Tune Hotels.

Another instance of an Indian origin person making to the top in his field of work.

My first trip abroad- The flight

I am like any other guy who wants to go to different places and meet people from different cultures and interact with them.Infact i used to feel a little low that unlike guys who work for the software or BPO service sector in India, the chances for guys in other profession to go abroad is very less.I had not imagined that i would be getting an opportunity aswell.

So i get an opportunity to go Singapore for training in the new company i have joined.I thought it should be great fun as Singapore is like a melting pot with people from different countries, culture making it their home country.I get into the airport with my parents and my brother prem seeing me off.I finish all the procedure and get into the plane and i saw a fellow tamilian already sitting in my seat (window seat).I politely say to him that he is sitting in my seat.He grins and sheepishly tells me that this is his first flight and asks my permission to sit in my seat.I just did not want to spoil his enthusiasm and agree to it and sit in the aisle seat.Couple of minutes later an airhostess walks up and tells me this seat belongs to the Japanese lady. Then i explain the situation and sit on the middle seat. Then all the three of us started having a friendly chat. The tamil guy Mr.Kumar happens to work for my competitor and was really innocent. This japanese lady Ms.Sao was a Japanes and Spanish teacher and has just finished her vacation in Tamilnadu for 10 days.I had been long harbouring the doubt that if Tamil Movie star Rajinikanth really has a big fan following in Japan.I enquire about Rajinikanth and ask her about him.She did not seem to know him. Then she again asked if it was the Dancing Maharajah(thats how he is popularly known as in Japan) and i say in the affirmative, her eyes lits up and says its true that he has got a big fan following. She was actually fond of tamil and Tamilnadu and all of a sudden asks in japanes accent Tamil "Unaku cricket pudikuma??" (DO you like Cricket??)and i got shell shocked. She smiles and says that her Tamil friend has been doinga all the teaching. Our friend Kumar was also delighted to see her talking in Tamil.Since he was going to Japan and works for a Japaense company he says the modest Japanese sentences that he has been taught and the lady was pleased aswell. When the airhostess offered a drink to everybody and asked for the choice Mr.Kumar opted for juice and i opted for white wine and the lady opted for Juice.Mr.Kumar suddenly realised his blunder and grins at me and asks me again "Sir Can i asks for wine? Will they give me?".Though i did feel like laughing i did not do so as the guy was innocent and travelling for first time.I said to him its absoultely his right to ask for wine and he did so.I could never forget the smile in his face when he got that.

So after  we reached Changi Airport in  Singapore in the ealy morning, the Sao showed me the way to immigration counter and we parted ways.Kumar had his other senior colleagues and he had parted much earlier.I could really understand and was proud of the fact that India indeed has got the soft power like howit had reached the Japanese Lady.I think after US,India is the country which has got the softpower to attract everyone.

Thought its been a week in Singapore i have just written about the flight. But I guess my chronicles about my experience will continue in the same blog.Ciao.

The Ass Effect

As a guy who has studied marketing i have always had keen interest in Advertising.I always watch ads coz  sometimes they turn out to be better than the program itself.

There is a belief in ad-world that nothin sells like sex.Lot of products use this concept but i am still to fathom the real intention or interest behind using sexily clad women.Just to name a few products toothpaste, shaving products, soap, deosprays et al.Now they have even invented a new terminology called Foodporn where Katrina Kaif,Lara Dutta sell mango juice and pizza in a bizarre way.I was really wondering when a gal in swinsuit appears in an ad for cement.I really dont know what she has to do with that except acting as an eye candy.

But one product which has continously used this concept is the deodarant for men. They actually advertise it like some kind of talisman which when used can get you super sexy gals beyond your imagination. One brand even goes one step further where even if you dont use it but  happen to be in the lift where the guy who had used had left the scent to linger you still get the gal.Amazing is it not.

I wonder if the super sexy gals sniff around searching for their soul mates or whatever.I read that one guy even filed a case coz after so many years of using the deospray he did not get the result shown in the ad.I pity him.Only if he had known what to actually use(I mean his brains).Defintely he did lack it as he believed in this silly concept.

All i can understand is that there can be only two reasons as to why we get to see these kind of ads.
1.The ad-world clearly lacks imagination to create differnt type of ads for this product.
2.There is a substantial population of dumbos out there who believe that they can infact get a gal by just sporting these deo.

The conclusion to this very important topic which can actually create a lasting impact as it pertains to youth brigade.

Deospray is only meant to prevent body odour. It may prevent gals in the vicinity from running away but will never get you a GF.Issued in Public Interest.People who ignore will experience "Ass-Efffect" ;)

A real AVATAR Story in our own backyard

"Avatar" the movie which is becoming a phenomenon breaking all records and raking in moolhas for James Cameroon and Co.The story about the battle between the humans encroaching a mineral rich planet against the wishes of the nature worshipping indigenious tribe "naavi".Ultimately the the hero JAke Sully with the help of the legendary Turak Maktao unites all tribes and succeeds in driving away the humans. We all feel happy for the Naavi as the movie ends.

But what about the real Avatar story thats happening in our own backyard.I happened to read an article about the struggle waged by the people of Dongria Kondh Tribe people numbering around 8000 against the mining giant Vedanta and its subsidiary Sterlite which is threatening to swallow their sacred mountain in the Niyamgiri Hills which they worship as their deity.

In all ways they are deeply connected to their deity mountain. And the thing to be ashamed about is that a british director ,actress and their team have made a film on this called "Survival" to highlight their struggle.Pity that our indian movie Heroes are either ill informed or dont see any point supporting this kind of movement.

I had already written a post long time back in the same blog about how the indigeneous tribals of Andaman & Nicobar Islands living in harmony with forest were driven out by encroachers from mainland for Timber.

My friend and me also were having a discussion about this when he is asked me if i am proud to be an Indian about the very same incident of Orissa.I said i am proud but sad about whats happening currently.

Its my belief that even a countrys top echelon does not have the right to encroach anybodys space even its for a welfare project. If they are willing to donate their land for the cause it is ok,else an alternative route has to be found.

We may foolishy think that we are civilised, advanced as against the primitives. But the truth is that the idea of saving the nature has only dawned upon the so called civilised community after a huge hue and cry about global warming.Whilst they have been demonstrating this for a long time.

I wish the Dongria Kondhs did have a hero arrive to their place in a Turak Maktao, the god did hear them and helps them win their just war.

Performing Arts and Mechanical Engineers.Wierd but delightfull Combo.

I am a guy who opted Mechanical Engineering just because of fascination for Automobiles.

During College Days more than studies i was interested in performing arts and used to be in the Western Dance ,Ad-Zap,Variety Entertainment(Mostly comedy themed short acts) .I was happy to be in Mech Dept coz i had like minded guys .Some of my friends were blessed with amazing talent and extra-ordinary sense of humour. There was always an attitude to show we are the best in any field of interest. We had a rebel attitude when it came to imposing needless censorship on creativity as the only guys who could censor were us.We used to take pride in performing and putting up a show as professional as we could.Though many other dept guys and gals hated us they loved to see us performing on stage for sheer entertainment.Though many of the guys could have gone on to make an alternative career, all of us have stuck to the predictable existence.

Neverthless I did some googling to find creative people with Mechanical Engineering education who had made it big in Tamil Film industry .Its not exhaustive but just to show that there is something that is unique or natural about Mechanical Engineering Students that many of them excelled in Performing Arts.

1.Crazy Mohan an ace Tamil comedy scrip & dialoguewriter,Actor, director who has several comedy drama hits, and comedy film hits to his credit is a Mechanical Engineer from College of Engg,Guindy in Anna University

2.Susi Ganesan a leading Tamil Film Director
has done his Automobile Engineering from MIT,Chennai.

3.SP Balasubramaniam a great singer,Composer,Film Producer enrolled for Engineering(Not Clear if it was Mechanical)dropped out of it and went on to have his career in singing.

4.Tamil Film Director Selvaraghavan who is critically accalimed for his work and box -office hit film like Kadhal Kondaen,7G Rainbow Colony, also has done BE Mechanical Engineering.Currently he has completed a tamil movie on the lines of "Indian Jones".

5.Noted Tamil film Director Gautham Vasudev Menon known for his slick and stylish films like Minnale,Khaaka Khaaka,Vaaranam Ayiram also happens to be a mechanical Engineer .I like his movies Minnale,Vaaranam Ayiram for the portrayal of Mech Student as the protoganist. You rock Gautham.

6.Ramesh Arvind one of the popular actor in Kannada,Tamil and Telugu is also a Mechanical Engineer.

There seems to be some X factor with Mech Guys which makes them excel in Performing Arts .Well how else can you explain a bunch of guys who are studying machines (read replacing human effort) come up with something that touches human emotions.

Well if you guys are wondering and asking me "Mechanical Engineering Students and studying in College?? ".I just raise my hands up hehe.

Joy of small things

I happen to read a column written by Gopinath a famous TV Anchor , RJ in Tamil .
In his column he says most of the great men were not just skilled only in their profession or rather only worried and focussed about their profession. They had the tenacity to stop and enjoy small things which was of no importance to their profession amongst the mad race.He explains with an incident where he was geared up to interview Dr.M.Karunanidhi,an elderly statesman of India and Chief minister of Tamilnadu,Author,Lyricist(he dons many hats with aplomb) early in the morning. While he was checking on the arrangement,Dr.MK being a punctual and humble person had arrived 15 Min's early.Gopinath in a hurry goes to the gate where it is supposed to be like an informal interview in the lawn. When he starts the interview ,his assistant comes running with the Blazer which he forgot to wear. Not wanting to interrupt he just casually slips into the blazer.Dr.MK quips "So i guess i have to interview you?" jovially instead of getting angry.Gopi further elaborates how he is checking in the lawn garden if everything has been watered, the flowers, throws biscuit to a small pup with affection while giving the interview.Imagine this is the person who is in politics and who is a Chief Minister which is said to be the most pressure filled job. This ability to pause and savour small things that sets them apart.
Gopi further says its the small chat with Tea Shop owner, smiling at a kid in while waiting for the signal, and much more things which may seem trivial but are to be savoured.
I liked the article because it just happened to echo my views. We are just becoming stereotypes or rather clones of each other. Most of us are flaunting interest which is in vogue like reading the same author, listening to same music, learning dance, watching a theatrical play, happy buying a I-phone/Play station. We feign to be happy after doing the above said things. But do we pause to understand if we really like these things or are we just giving in to what is acceptable in the clique.
Rather if we start appreciating small things i guess we will derive the joy that has no bounds.I am not being philosophical.I am just hoping.

Book autographed by Chetan Bhagat

I had read all of Chetan Bhagat's books save 'One Night at Call Centre' .Like anyone else it started with a guy recommending 'Five Point Someone'.And what a read it turned out to be.Just like it fetched the writer instant fame, i became an instant fan.

so when an opportunity came in the form of his launching '2 States' in chennai, i decided that i should be there.Since i had decided the rainpour was not enough to dampen my spirits and i headed for Loyola College where it was to be held.

Came to realise it was to be held in Betrahm Hall of Loyola when i went looking for it in the college campus. The hall brought back memories of 'Mock Cats' where the most serious thing i had done at that time was looking at the pretty gals who had come to take the exam.Well if i had probably been serious about the mock cat i could /would have been in IIM jus like Chetan Bhagat.Interesting but wishfull thinking.Thats very much me.

It was a great evening and had almost 1500 people.Of course Chennaites are a reading lot and the crowd was mostly comprised of people between the age of 20-30.

Chetan bhagat was in his simple self clad in kurtha pyjama. It alos had Suhasini Maniratnam,Kushboo and Shruthi Haasan.Craig and Pooja of SS Music apologised to the guests and host for coming late. The main aspect of the event was the PPT with a title 'Why Tamil Gals are better than punjabi gals' and backing it up with his observation on their weight, dance steps known, books read, shopping spree vis a vis thier age.Infact a guy later asked for his PPTo that he can give it to his friend who is in similar state(Bad State as Kamalhaasan would say in a movie).

Then Chetan and Shruti Haasan read what exceerpts from novel what chetan termed as Spicy passage.Sruthi using 'Bleep' for the word 'Fuck' evoked laughter from the audience.

Was dissappointed though as i could not get a chance to ask a question as it was wound up for lack of time .Well i think it was mainly because Chetan Bhagat got annoyed by a guy's question. But his reluctance to sign some books was quite appalling.A guy who calls himself simple and connected to youth should have agreed to sign some books which after all gets his dough and popularity especially when a novelist like Jeffrey Archer is happy to sign books claiming "Only in India and not in native UK ,a he is treated like a Rock Star ".But later he half heartedly agreed and i was happy to get my novel autographed by him. After all i had travelled a neat 20 Km to reach that place.

May be will auction it for good money if he really gets more famous.Needless to say Tamil guys are also very shrewd.

Friends - The greatest source of strength

I was just reflecting on my thoughts couple of days after i had written a post about parents.Yes indeed parents are the best gift to anybody. But i was just thinking who else?

Who else would support at the times of distress?Help us return to normalcy.Enjoy even our smallest of the achievment.Friends are the ones who does that.

Its a cliche statement that 'Friends are the only ones apart from parents who help without even expecting anything in return'.Some unviersal truths are always bound to be cliche and this is one of them.

I have been lucky enough to have really trustworthy and caring friends in all stages be it my childhood, undergraduation and postgraduation. They are the ones who can be trusted blindfolded. They are so special its because 'They dont expect me to ask for help. They understand when i need help and extend their arms'.I do not want to name anybody because i dont want any readers if they stumble upon this post to think that i am writing to flatter any person or persons.

Friendship is like brotherhood.Just like the Free Mason you come across in Dan Browns Novels.Free Masons really exists indeed.Always supporting the member in need of help.

Its only when you are left with some rest to your mind , you reflect upon realtionships that you cherish. Its only then you start appreciating it.

Eichers Charismatic Leader-Sidharth Lal(The guy who turned around Royal Enfield)

I have been a g8 g8 fan of Royal Enfield Bullet. Its my dream to own one of them for myself.Somehow the time has not come to own.But i was just going through news related to Bullet and invariably Eicher Motors which manufactures Bullet.

I just happend to read about the MD of Eicher Group Mr.Sidharth Lal who is just 35 years old and a maverick in running organisation. It was the year 2001 and Mr.Lal though he was from the family that owns the group was undergoing his 2nd year of worker stint in Eicher.Royal Enfield was considered to be a drain in Eicher group and was making losses. Most of the people in sr management wanted to do away with the bike portfolio. But Mr.Lal being an avid fan of Bullet himself spoke from his heart that he will turn around Royal Enfield and sought 2 years. In exactly 2 years he turned around Royal Enfiel and it was making profits.

In many ways he reminds me of Mr.Vijay Mallya who was also young who stromed his way through when he just took out one of his companies forgotten brand Kingfisher and just turned into a huge and iconinc brand.

I have no doubt that with great, charismatic young leader like Mr.Sidhartha Lal, Royal Enfield will become an iconic very much like HArley Davidson.Harley Davidson may come to India but my wish as true Indian and fan of RE,Royal Enfield should give Harley Davidson a run for its money in its own backyard.

Its not only that.People like Mr.Sidhartha show us the way that if we believe in what our heart says we will reach greater heights.

Appa Amma (Dad and Mom)

The post has been named in Tamil not for nothing. Its because i feel one's love for their parents is best expressed in their native tongue.

I guess most of you would agree with my view "If you were asked to name 2 human beings who are most selfless/motivating/sacrifice personified?"the answer would be a unified voice that says "Mom and Dad".Right from the days i could remember i have always seen them as a motivating and soothing presence. There were times when i had failed, major or minor they were always there to support me so that i emerge positively.Cherished my success more than me.

I have always wondered if i could be so selfless? But i am yet to get an answer to that question.Probably that change is brought about by parenthood. But i would like to show the same support to my parents during their times of need.

I would have sounded too sentimental or emotional. But i believe men should not be afraid to show off their sensitive side.

Generally people say "Kids are the best thing to happen".But i would also add "Good parents are the best thing to happen".

Singled out for being Single

Well i have been single till date.Never had any relationships.Though the second sentence is no different from the first one , i have just reinforced what i have said in my first line .

This status of being single comes up eventually whenever i meet college friends who are into relationship obviously. The sad part is when they feel bad for you being single and they say "dude you have good sense of humour, you are smart, you are this you are that how come you are still single".Well whatever they said not only needs to be taken with a pinch but a handfull of salt.Coz afterall they are my best friends trying hard to spruce up my confidence level.Well the underlying meaning is that "Look Dude there are millions of duds out there who have a girlfriend. What are you doing?".

I am like yeah dude. What am i doing introspectively i ask myself.

Probably being a true sagittarian my interest in a good looking gal was only till another gal passes by.Probably the portion of my brain which was suppoesdly to develop cognition about cues or hints from opposite sex never developed at all.Probably i was too dumb to hang around with seemingly similar minded singletons so that i never felt bad not realising that they are all secretly trying to get into a relationship.

The reason could be that i strongly beleive is that i never felt alone.Good friends and friendly family atmosphere.Really happy to spend everything to myself my time,my money et al.

Probably i was destined to write this post :).

P.S:Gosh great to be born in India.Land of arranged Marriage ;).

Equity Theory Extended

Well i was just thinking why do we feel happy, dissappointed, sad and all that emotional surge etcetera.

I just remembered a theory which i had read while doing MBA while studying Organizaional Behavior. The theory is called Equity Theory proposed by John Stacey Adams which is more applicable for a work enviornment.

Like I dont feel feel happy despite getting 1 Lac or 2 Lac not because i deserve more but because other guy whos workin has got 25 K more than me but still he had worked less hours than me.

This can be illustrated by the following equation:

\frac{individual's\quad outcomes}{individual's\quad own\quad inputs} = \frac{relational\quad partner's\quad outcomes}{relational\quad partner's\quad inputs}

Well i believe it can be extended to social sphere aswell.Well most we are not
happy, dissappointed or sad in absolute way.I mean its all dependant who other are.We feel bad not when we are slogging for 12 hours. We feel bad when we are slogging for 12 hours and our friends return home after work in 8 hours. Our happiness that we are getting Rs X salary per month vanishes the moment we come to know that firend or brother is getting RsX + dX.

I am not sad that i am single.I get sad coz guys who are not better looking than me got girlfirends hehe.

Well though it seems to be negative.why dont we try it in positive way.We should be happy happy that we are still in our job compared to people who are getting laid off.We should be happy that we are better being single than the ones whos broken off teir relationship.

Easier said than done. But thats the whole point of trying. You dont try something that is so easy. But i guess its eassier than to feel happy only about stuff pertaing to oneself(Read it as absolute well that requires a lot of comin to term with oneself)..

Well i guess i should have name the post "Equity Theory for Dummies"

Bucks for Dollars

I have been wondering that why do we use the word bucks for money.Though its fashionable to ape the americans i was a little inquisitive to know the origins of the word.

This is what the website online etymology had to say about the origins of the word

O.E. bucca “male goat,” from P.Gmc. *bukkon (cf. M.Du. boc, O.H.G. boc, O.N. bokkr), perhaps from a PIE base *bhugo (cf. Avestan buza “buck, goat,” Arm. buc “lamb”), but some speculate that it is from a lost pre-Gmc. language. Apparently O.E. also had buc “male deer.” The two words (if truly separate) were fully merged by c.1100. Verb is 1848, apparently with a sense of “jump like a buck.” Meaning of “dollar” is 1856, Amer.Eng., perhaps an abbreviation of buckskin, a unit of trade among Indians and Europeans in frontier days, attested in this sense from 1748. B

So I guess its a word thats derived its roots from days of the brater trade.

Helpless Tamils

Tamils in Eelam have been subjected to Racial and all types  humiliaton for quite a long period which led to formation of various Organisation which agitated for a seperate country for them.We all know that rootcause is callous governance of the Countrys leadership indulging in Genocide and also the mute spectatorship of the international community. This makes them rally behind a particualar organisation which supports their cause and synonymous with their aspiration. If international community  blames a particular organisation which started as a freedom movement and now become a terrorist organisation it has nothing but to  blame itself. Why adopt double standards for human rights abuse?

When human rights abuse is being sufffered in a mineral rich country the big boy interfers but at the same time if it happens in a country devoid of that no one gives a damn. There has been genocide, use of chemical weapons and all sorts of aggression  against helpless Tamils.Even their refugee camps are being bombed. When are they goin to intervene? Is it After the entire population is wiped out.Going to offer justice on the land of corpse where its unneccessary.Every Action is decided based on diplomacy , polarisation and all that nonsense.Country which commits genocide has to be issued with santions by the international community and not a country which produces Atomic weapon for defending itslef.

Is peace such a costly alternative?

I sometimes wonder that why is that so many wars, revolts happening around.Causing so much mayhem and disturbing peace.

Well its easy to take a simplified route of assuring ourselves it is because of lack of tolerance.Lack of tolerance for others faith, point of view, belief, rights.

But it looks like its beyond that.We hear that every big country has defence budget of so many percentage of its GDP,this and that.Well this is only about the big countries. There are so many other for which arms and ammunitions are sold which is much much more than more than their spending on its  education and social welfare. So there is this constant effort i guess by some set of people to keep it burning.Cause only a small fraction of US Arms budget is required to give education, clean water and food for the entire Africa which would very much put and end lot of killings happening. But then peace is not an enterprise unlike Arms and AMmunitions where so much of billions of trade involved.

Billy Joel of US  may sing that "We dint start the fire.It was always burning since the worlds been turning".Butback then it affected very little set of people and the world was not this connected. Now that it is so connected it offers a way to put an end to it.No body would believe if he sings now.

Thers no compassion in us for fellow human beings sufferings and his hardships. All we want to do is chase money with greed and unkowingly taking in poison in installment for it will wreck the peace of us aswell.Well theres noting much that a strangers post about peace gonna do.What i would like to see is that there will be someday where people who matter will become compassionate about their fellow brother and sisters. And will do something rather worry about arms trade. They can definitely make some money elsewhere.

Times now is run by idiots

I happened to see a "Times now" exclsuive (Its very funny to hear this stupid thing again and again) which showed of pics of Vaiko and Prabakar of Ltte which was taken in 1989.

It blew the buggle in the sense that how could a politician from TN could go and be seen in LTTE's army gear etc etc.he is a threat to national integrity and should be put behind bars.

But what is amusing and funny is that the same chanel is showing news about Sajjad Lone who is a leader of seperatist movement in Kashmir who is contesting election this time. But the media idiots fail to remeber that he is asking for Kashmir to be seperated from India. But they dont see him as a threat to National integrity.

Well i can understand if the media is really sincere. But in the hands of these guys the role of media has become a farce.Pretty much like how our government and democracy has become a farce in the hands of corrupt and stupid politicians.

I just feel like kicking on their $$@.

Stock happiness

I guess i have heard or read about this term"Stock Happiness" somewhere.I am not even sure if the term i have used is correct. i abstain from using google to check if ther term is correct because it will make me look like a perfect guy doing evrything right which i am not.
Well enough meandaring from the subject.I guess its got  to do with something which i have posted in my blog long time back. Its basically when you suddenly feel like you are left out, depressed, lacking hope et al.To put it simple you are part of the "system of the down".(Somehow i managed to sneak in a rock bands name.Jus trying to be cool ;))It becomes very difficult to come out of that.Because you mentally shut yourself out.Thats when this "stock happiness" comes to the rescue. Its noting but thinking about all the happiest moments that has happened in your life so far.The more and more you think about that it gives you the same feeling which you felt when that had happened.Slowly you come out of the gloom. So whenever you get the feeling of being alone and depressed you know what to do.

Moral Policing-Mangalore incident

I just happened to see in a news channel that a gang o hooligans self-proclaimed saviours of indian tradition hitting and slapping gals who were in a pub in Mangalore. Why?Coz they felt it was spoiling the tradition.I dont understand one thing. If they wanted to uphold the tradition really then they should have done the same in all the bars where people take liquor. They should have asked the very own party which rules the state to stop liquor distribution in the state and fought for prohibition. They should have had the courage to take on the liquor barons who have made so much money. But they were spineless swines so they have taken the easy way out by targetting hapless gals.If they consumed liquor thats their problem.I am 100% sure that the party bigwigs own sons and daughters would be very much part of the party circuit. If you dont like it dont be there and start campaigning against ill effects. And all these things happen due to one reason lack of policing from the "Police dept".If they did the policing these swines would have been behind bars.Thats not happening.Lets hope it will happen very soon.

Terror's a commodity???

This should have come right after 26/11/09.but i am way too late.Nonethelss i have expressed my view which is more self satisfying.

Terror s commodity??

I was going through the pvt news chennels. It was the ghastly terrorist attack on mumbais prominent hotels which had consumed around 150 lives christened "26/11".Over and over again the news channel kept on repeating the incidents and coming up with lot of theories about how it had happened.Plot, modus operandi, security lapse every thing was being discussed.I do agree the fourth estate was effective in uniting the citizens and creating a awareness which resulted in a huge gathering in demonstrations in mumbai,Bangalore etc.But the fact is I could not stop thinking or rather realising that for news channel the incident was seen more as a commodity and not as national tragedy.I want the readers to excuse my profanity. But I don’t want to hold my emotions. One so called journalist( asshole I would say) went on to recreate the modus operandi by going to international water and smuggling contraband like material to indian shore and that ass hole is also exposing a possible target to the terrorists while doing the show.Well I am puzzled what good is it going to do the country at this point. All they are worried about is their fucking TRP's. State television has atleast trained its newsreaders to show a grim face whenever they tell about a sad news. These pvt channel anchors seem to have no such thing.I could even see some anchors with a light smile. One anchor at the middle of a heated debate about the same topic goes on to say "She is compelled to take a short commercial break".Well what the fuck is happening?More concerned about their loss of revenues that loss of lives.Whipping up emotions among common man like our country should go for war and destroy the camps in the other country.I used to tell the same thing myself that our country is weak and its not aggressive enough. But ask the people who have seen the war they will always say it’s the last option.I would really want somebody to take up a study and gather information about the incidences of various crime, riots etc after pvt channels came into being.Because there seems to absolutely no restraint among the Indian Media. We should stop all the 24 hours pvt news channels which seems to be like an unchained dog looking for any news that can be sensationalised.I would not recommend any regulatory authority or watch-dog to oversee the kind of news material. Its not that they have not done good things. But the evil they are causing to the country is much more than the good.

"If you have to shoot.Shoot.Dont Talk"

"If you have to shoot.Shoot.Dont Talk".This is actually a dialogue uttered by the actor Eli Wallachi who plays "Tuco the ugly"in the classic movie "The Good,BAd and Ugly".

I was just watching Sony PIX which was showing the trailor of the movie.IT actually happens when a guy who has been lost his arm becoz of "The ugly"gets his opportunity to take revenge on him.But rather he unneccessarily indulges in speakin to him about how he is gonna shoot him.Tuco who is in bath tub shoots him with his gun submerged in the tub and utters this dialogue. This is one scene which i really loved mainly for the sarcastic way in which Eli Wallachi says that.

Well on the other hand i would say that dialogue has got a underlying meaning.Coz it says when you have opportunity and you want to do something ,you should do rather than just talk about it.Especially this is not the case with me.I feel like doing something and i jus keep talking about that and in the end i do nothing.Well laziness, procastination whichever you may call it.no way its gonna help.Well whenever i get this urge of procatinating it would do well for me to remember this dialogue ""If you have to shoot.Shoot.Dont Talk"

appraisal duh

Well appraisal is supposed to be an activity done by the HR dept of the company.Honestly this is a wonderful system in theory. But it has to be carried out honestly.Well after such a start you might be thinking I am one of those countless beings affected by a bad appraisal.

Well thats a wrong guess.I am on the other side.Well i work for a company which has got a superb appraisal system in papers. And they do ask us to fill all the KPA and stuff and acceptance from ur boss.Sounds cool and up to date. But i dont know why they do collect all that info.Coz when it comes to incentives and results is across the board rise. Then why the hell is this farcical activity being carried out.

This things affects the entire workforce which i am not sure if they notice.
1. This creates an undeniable jealousy between the co-workers.
2.IT does not promote a culture where people would be rewarded based on their performance.
coz this will make more people lazy oz they r gonna get not based on the performance but on general assumption and evaluation.

Worst is the scenario which i face.coz being a new induct and i have an experienced guy placed below me speakin by grade and he getting lower incentive and me gettin more.though i can accept that i have worked hard i def have not achieved more coz i am new. This thing is creating problems coz he does not share his knwoledge with us.Coz even if i was in his position i would do the same. But i am not sure if the company thinks about all this.

Well if u have appraisal system make sure that it is honest and scientific.Don be a me too co to implement that, coz its not gonna help but only its gonna destroy lil bit of camaradeire which is exisiting.

conquering the fear within

The biggest of all the obstacle or the deterrent in our way to success is the fear which lies within.External fears are something which is superfluos which can be overcome or atleast can be avoided. But the internal fear is something which you cannot avoid but conquer.

This innate fear is something which is due to the society.Well you would have wanted to be a painter(artist),an actor or a fashion designer or something. But you are not just guided that want.Coz you are bombarded with views, opinions and even mild threats about how these are not secure jobs.I am jus pointin out an example of the profession and it could be other things than profession also.Views like how these are not jobs which is permanent, opinions like you would be better off doin this, mild threats like how one person who wanted to be a actor or painter could not make it big and became an object of ridicule. All these things start creating a dent in your self belief or the fogging the vision which you had for yourself thereby creating the innate fear. This fear does not leave you and many of us succumb to this. Many people who have bcome successfull are the ones who have conquered this fear sown by the society. But ironically the same society which had done jus evrything to creat the fear in that person would celebrate and even claim credit for the person who has become successfful ignoring them.Dats hypocrasy but the society practises this at large.

Well i am just a normal person who has this fear and who would love to conquer this fear.It may not be now but would do so def in the near future.

Land Grabbing

I happened to read an article about the Jarawa tribe and how they are being deprived of their land and hence their livelihood in "The Hindu".

I have always had the belief evolution of monkeys into human beings was the greatest mistake to happen in the planet.Coz all species evolve to survive. But we have evolved to make other species extinct.I wish we had been monkeys itself and our planet would hav been a better place.

COming to Jarawas one of the oldest living hunter gatherer tribe in the world. They still have the customs of primitive tribes because they were not in contact with the outside world. They were all living their life in peace.Their populaiton was small but peacefull. They never wanted to get in touch with us.But things changed when the Govt started building roads bisecting their territory. We have not taken their livelyhood into consideratiion coz they are small in no.But that does not mean that their life can be sacrificed .We just dont see this just in ANdamans, but also in various hilly regions supposed to be mineral rich but is home for tribals.

I honestly dont believe that it is right to take away the homeland from any poeple not matter how small its populaition may be saying it will benefit lot more people.

Government itself cannot be a land grabber.

Cafe's are theatres

well it might be very similar what i wrote about malls. But still i feel like writing about my not so frequent visits to cafe.

I do go to the cafes especially Cafe Coffe Day or Barista.
Reason1. Coz its damn hot outside and i dont mind paying the astronomical figure for a coffee(courtesy : food coupons).
Reason2. I want to spend some time in the name of meeting fictitous customers (well i am supposed to be on work hehe)
Reason3. A blind belief that someday i will also come to the cafe with my GF rather than coming alone (Imagination at work)
Reason4.Important of them all.Just looking at the Gals who have come there.(I need to accept the truth)

So I guess the topic name which i had given is apt.Besides this what mad me give that name was.Even though i indulge in some serious (sight adichifying) of the gals who had come there i also observe seriously their behaviour(I swear u have to believe me). They way they interact or speak to each other is very very artifcial. The way they laugh and smile is all magnified versions.I had heard of this kind of thing only about theatre actors coz then only the man in the last row can also c the emotions.Probably they want everyone in the cafe to know or notice their emotions.Today i was in a cafe.I could see a gal who had come with his BF was applying make-up in the Cafe.I dont know if she was too busy to hav done this at home or she was preparing for her next meeting. Then this female asked the guy opposite to him to help her do the final touch or whatever.Well i really doubt if they are really showing off their real self to the persons with whom they are having some relationship. Then whatever they are doing is nothing but acting.Whats gonna happen in the end?Relationship ends once they know the real person is far far removed from what they present.

well one thing which i could make out was "Cafe's are the breeding ground for actors"

why do i go to a mall?

Any chennaite would know that 2 or 3 years back the only "mall" which was a classy hangout(read as place which is air conditioned and u can spend time without spending money) place was SPencers.
But now we have a lot of malls in chennai.
I keep visiting one particular mall which is recently opened. Its really nice.I just kept wondering why i keep visiting that mall.Is it that it for the same definition i have for a mall.Or else is it because of the pretty gals who come there.Or is it because of the sheer vastness of the place. And i concluded that none of the above said reasons made me go there. Then i realised something, Coz many times i have been there alone and some time i am not at ease with somethin thats happening .

Then i found out that i go there coz i am amongst a crowd.though they are strangers i consider them to be some known people of mine.It makes me feel that i am not alone.I jus keep seeing at Children making mischieves ad their parents struggling to control them. The young things walking like as if they are grown ups.Young couples lost in this world and walking with their hand held. Medium aged couple whose affection is beyond the lust of their early years.Old people who have come with their kids and grand childrens and struggling to get on to the escalaotors and the laughter that breaks out after they have got onto them.Well there is so much happiness around us and i become happy aswell.Well Well still i can see def that if my friends go through this they wud def say i go there only for somethin else and all the reason i gave is some Bull****. But this is the truth.

corruption-confession

we people talk about the official machinery and politicians are corrupt .and say that they are the ones who are ruining the country.well though it seems to be right to an extent but are we not corrupt?

I even used to talk like those guys in TV channels saying all the people in polity n bureaucracy have become corrupt. But little bit of introspection made me realize dat i myself am corrupt.

We try to hide things while trying to file tax returns. It may look very small and even silly like giving a false rent receipt and false bills and stuff to avoid tax.We try to exploit the loopholes saying that i am not committing a great crime by doing this assuaging ourselves we are just being smarter.

Well we earn in few hundreds of thousands and evade tax in few thousands. It might seem small at the outset. But the big sharks they earn in hundreds of crores and evade tax in few crores saying the very same reason that they are trying to be smart.

So I believe that we are being hypocrites.Well you might argue that we are trying to save what we have earned through our hardwork and the things we do are petty. But mistake or corruption is a relative word here. When we feel this is some small thing similarly they also feel it is small.

Probably thats the reason we dont or probably we might never see some upheaval against corruption even though some might create some noise abt that.Because if we have to do that first of all the mjor upheaval has to happen in our minds, the common mans minds.

Blood Diamond - Movie Review

This is a movie which i saw recently.I was really impressed by the way it was narrated.
Well we all know what a Blood Diamond is.For those who might not be knowing it is the conflict diamond which are sold by african nations to buy arms for their civil war.
The important characters are played by Di caprio a smuggler,Jennifer Connely a reporter,Djimoun hansou (Gladiator fame) a native fisherman and Arnold Vosloo an evil colonel who is the master mind behind this smuggling.
The story is grippin and it says abt the djimoun who has lost his family due to the attack by the rebels in Sierra leone. He is taken by rebels for workin in diamond mines. He accidentally discovers a huge diamond which can change his live dat is what he believes.
during a raid by the army rebel lord and djimoun is taken to prism.meanwhile leanordo is also in prison caught while smuggling. He understands that he has a huge diamond. He tries to get the diamond from him and the price is his lost family and di caprio accepts the deal.He gets the help of reporter whom he ignores till then.Meanwhile the rebel lord is released and he gets the son of the fisherman to get the diamond.so all of them rebel lord, colonel and di caprio are after the diamond. And finally after some strugglle and sacrifice of di caprio everyone is killed except fisherman and his son.
Reporter gets the facts and modus operandi of smuggling and big names involved.finally a treaty is signed to get the blood diamonds out of trade.
Though the story is very tragic it is laced with a mild humor which makes it interesting.Ruthless happening in African conflict torn nations have been portrayed realistically. The way kids are brainwashed and made killers though unpalatable are but real.
director Edward Zwick has done a superb job in the way he has handled the theme.Pwerfull performances by all the lead actor.

One dialogue by Di Caprio which still lingers in my mind is "Sometimes i wonder whether God would forgive us for what we have done to each other. But then i realised that God had left this place long time ago."
